Abstract

Direct' connections between conductors. - In electric resistance heating units, especially such as comprise a helical wire packed in magnesia or the like in a cylindrical sheath, as described in Specification 144,767, the end of the wire is spirally wound on the terminal and secured thereto by compressing at a number of circumferentially spaced points. In the form shown, the resistance unit consists of two helices 11 in parallel slipped over the ends of terminals 13, 14 as far as a shoulder formed thereon and swaged along two diametral planes at right angles to each other. Blocks or lava 18 are then threaded on the terminals and secured by forcing ears 18<a> out of the sides of the terminal. The whole is then inserted in a sheath 10, one end of which is closed by a washer 21 and the terminals secured by pins 22, 23 shaped as shown and passing through holes in their ends. Terminal lugs 29, 30 are then attached, as described in Specification 198,932, by cutting off the ends of the sheath and pressing the lugs on to the ends of the terminals which are notched to receive them.
