Abstract
898,512. Electric heating units. A. & R. ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1960 [April 11, 1960], No. 12840/60. Class 39(3) An electric heating unit comprises a mounting plate 10 carrying at least one tubular heater formed by a helical resistance element 12 in a tube (e.g. glass) 14, and terminal carrying connection blocks 18 arranged on the plate 10 adjacent the ends of the tubular heater; a cable connection 19, capable of forming a power supply circuit between the blocks and means for connecting the ends of the heating tube to the adjacent blocks so that the two ends of the element are connected via the blocks to two wires of the supply circuit, is provided so that when the supply circuit is energized from a supply at one of the blocks, the element is in shunt across the supply and the supply is available at the other block. A plurality of such units may be arranged end to end and energized from a single mains supply cable extending to one of the blocks, each unit being in shunt across the supply. The heating tube preferably comprises a helical resistance wound on a glass rod or tube which is centrally located by end caps within the glass tube 14. Alternatively the wire is a free-standing helix extending between metal end.caps 17.
