Abstract

264,043. Alston, J. S. E. April 7, 1926. Check hinged valves-A pivotallymounted valve has a torsional control spring associated therewith in such a manner that the closing tendency of the spring is lessened as the valve opens. As shown in Fig. 2, the suction-actuated air inlet valve 3 of a carburettor is returned to the closed position by a lever 8 carrying a roller 9 bearing against an arm 10 secured to the spindle 4 of the valve, the lever 8 being attached to a pivoted shaft 6 loaded by a coiled spring. As the valve opens, the roller 9 moves along the arm 10 nearer the spindle 4 thus offering a decreasing resistance.
