Abstract

234,308. Watkins, W. F. July 2, 1924. Spray carburettors.-The air passage around the nozzle 18, mounted transversely in the body 11 is controlled by a pair of flaps 40, 41 geared together by toothed sectors 44. the spindle 43 of one of the flaps being provided with an arm 48 adjustably pivoted at 53 to a link 49 actuated, through an arm 50, from the throttle valve spindle 10. The nozzle outlet is controlled by a valve 14 the spindle. 15 of which is loaded by a spring 17 and, at its outer end, is slotted at 21 to receive a cam bar 22 adapted to engage a pin or roller 24 on the spindle. The bar 22 is connected to an arm 27 mounted on the spindle 28 of an automatic air valve, which is returned to its closed position against a stop 29 by a coiled spring 31, one end of which is adapted to engage one of a number of notches 32 in the boss of the arm 27. An abrupt portion 25 of the cam is adapted to hold the fuel valve open at starting, the rest of the cam 23 being gradual. The cam may be actuated manually at starting by a cable attached to the boss 33. Hot air is supplied to the intake 35, and a manually-actuated flap valve may admit cold air. The flaps are provided with pockets 47 which, in their closed position, nearly surround the nozzle, and the pocket on either flap serves to deflect the current of air directed by the other flap.
