Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for. - In labyrinth packing of the type comprising intermeshing sleeves a-d carried by the shaft and casing, the usual jointed ring by means of which each floating sleeve b, c is flexibly attached at one end to the casing or to a flange on the shaft is replaced by an integral connection f, in the form of arms or an annulus, which is reduced in thickness at one or more places in order to provide sufficient flexibility to permit expansion of the sleeve.
