Apparatus for making filaments.-The filaments 6 are extruded into an openended tube or funnel 2 containing a descending column of liquid the velocity of which is regulated by the kinetic or potential energy of a second column of liquid supplied either to the bulb 5, Fig. 1, or contained in a tank 8, Fig. 3, enclosing a number of spinning funnels 2. By employing open-ended tubes, the coagulation can take place under atmospheric pressure so that the formation of air bubbles in the liquid is avoided and the deaeration of the liquid is rendered unnecessary. The method is particularly applicable to the spinning of ammoniacal-copper cellulose solutions.
