Kinematograph apparatus. - In apparatus capable of use as a camera or projector, a conduit or other light conducting means extends rearwardly of the gate and forms a retractable part of the gate; a light-excluding means and a lamp house having a barrel entering the conduit may alternatively be fitted at the rear end of the con duit. As shown the apparatus comprises a casing 1, a lens 12, a shutter housing 14 which contains a barrel shutter 15 and is closed at the rear by the fixed part 19 of the gate, and a light conduit 23, the casing being divided by a longitudinal partition to form two chambers. The conduit 23 comprises a section 26 slidable within a fixed section 24 and formed with a framing aperture 27 at its front end; a spring 29 presses the section against the gate member 19. Bosses 28 are. formed above and below the aperture 27 and side members 32, Fig. 8, are provided, one of which frictionally engages an inclined surface. 31 on the longitudinal partition 6 to hold the section when the gate is open, and the other of which is provided with a finger button 33. A plug having a milled head may be fitted in the end of the tube 23. Alternatively, a cylindrical lamp house 97 having a condenser 106 in a cylindrical barrel 107 is fitted in the tube, the lamp house being provided with a removable ventilating cap 98, openings 100. a bushing 101 for a light bulb 103, and a reflector 108 carried adjustably by a threaded stem 109. The storage, reel 36 for the film is retained on its shaft 37 by a resilient finger 38 bearing against the side of the reel at its centre, and the film is drawn from the reel, and through the gate, by an intermittently rotated roller 40 having a band of frictional material 42, being afterwards wound on a frictionally-driven reel 53, also provided with a resilient finger 57. Pressure rollers 44, carried by a yoke 45 pivoted on an arm 48 pulled by a spring 50, retain the film on the roller 40, and a roller 62 on a pivoted arm 60 bears on the film carried by the reel 53. Mechanism for driving the roller 40, the shutter, and the reel 53, by a crank shaft 65 or by a spring motor 87 is provided in one of the chambers, as shown in Fig. 2. The shaft 41 of the roller 40 carries a notched wheel 74. rotated intermittently by pins 71 on a continuously-driven wheel 68. The wheel 74 is locked between feed movements by a tooth 79 which engages the notches and is carried by a spring-pressed pivoted arm 77 having a finger 80 engaging the periphery of the pin wheel 68, and cams on the periphery lift the arm to disengage the tooth during feed movements. The motor 87 may be engaged with or disengaged from the transmission gearing by means of a pinion 89 carried by a longitudinally movable arm 90.
