Abstract
454,679. Kinematograph cameras. SOC. DES ETABLISSEMENTS EMEL, 18, Rue Royale, Paris. June 26, 1935, No. 18342. Convention date, June 26, 1934. [Class 97 (i)] A movable gate member and pressure rollers for a driving sprocket feeding the film both to and from the gate are carried in fixed positions on a single sliding member so as to facilitate threading ; an arm engaging the film on the pay-out spool may also be moved by the sliding member, and the knob or equivalent by which the sliding member is moved may prevent contact between the lengths of film between the spools and the sprocket. As shown, a gate plate 52 pressed by springs 531 is carried on a member 50 sliding on the fixed wall of the film chamber and carrying pressure rollers 41<1>, 41<2> engaging a single sprocket 40. A lug 59 on the sliding member 50 engages a spring-pressed arm 46 contacting with the film on the pay-out spool 3<1> to move it therefrom when the gate is open ; the arm 46 is connected with an external pointer moving over a scale 47 to indicate film footage. The camera comprises a casing having a rear spool-containing portion 2 and a front portion 2<3> containing the film-guiding means and carrying the lens 6. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the casing has the shape of a revolver, is capable of being supported by a single hand, and has a release knob on one side plate in such position that it may be operated by the index finger while the camera is so held. The release knob 1, Figs. 3 and 5 (Cancelled), slides in a slot 21, and carries a finger 20 normally engaging a shutter 18 under the influence of a spring 22. Rearward movement of the knob releases the shutter and driving mechanism, and permits the finger 20 to be held by a catch 25 engaging a depression therein. The mechanism is driven by a spring in a toothed barrel 12 driving a pinion 13 on the spindle of a wheel 15 driving a shutter pinion 16, and, through gears 33, 32, a pinion 31 on a spindle 30 carrying an adjustable friction device. The friction device comprises a conical member 34 turning in a conical socket 35 adjustable vertically by a screwed extension 36 and hand knob 37 so as to vary the friction and the speed of the mechanism. An alternative location for the friction device is described. The pressure rollers are provided with end flanges and have conical surfaces between the flanges and the film-engaging surfaces. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
