Abstract
262,755. Pneumatic Four-Wheel Brake Co., (Assignees of Mitton, R. E.). Dec. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Fluid-pressure. - A valve device particularly applicable for controlling air brake mechanism on motor road vehicles has relatively movable inlet and exhaust valves adapted to be opened by hand and closed by a spring-loaded piston subject to outlet pressure. The actuating piston C is loaded by a spring 5 housed in the cylinder 2 and has hollow piston rods B, D extending through opposite ends of the cylinder. The rod D which is connected by a flexible pipe to the air supply has an enlarged end screwed to a flange 8 on the piston to provide a chamber for the inlet valve 14 which co-operates with a seat 13 formed on the piston. The valve 14 is guided by a perforated member 16 and a piston 18 formed on the ported hollow spindle 15 and slidably mounted in the rod B, the member 16 being acted on by a spring 24 so as normally to hold the valve on its seat. The exhaust valve 21 is carried by a spindle E connected by an eye-bolt 23 to an actuating lever and co-operates with a seat on the end of the member 15 to control the connection between the outlet conduit 25 and atmosphere through ports 20 and 12<a>. The outlet 25 is fitted with a nipple 26 adapted to be connected by a flexible pipe to a similar nipple on the cylinder whereby outlet pressure is admitted to the actuating chamber 3.
