Operating clutches. - In operating-means for disengageable machine elements, shown as applied to a cone clutch 9, 10 for a winch, a sleeve 2, non-rotatable in a bearing 4 and mounted between abutments 5, 6 on the shaft 1, supports the shaft and is secured at the end 3 to coact with a manually-rotatable and axially-movable nut 7, a flange 8 of which engages the shiftable clutch member 9, so that the operating thrust is confined to the shaft 1 and does not act on the bearings 4, 12. A slight modification, applicable to coupling an electromotor to a worm gear, is described.
