Abstract
512,469. Rotor driving arrangements. DELAPLACE, A. March 1, 1938, No. 6368. Convention date, March 3, 1937. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXIV] In a motor gear unit with the motor and sun and planet gear coaxial, one pinion of the gear is arranged so that the motor rotor initially rotates freely and the load is subsequently coupled thereto by wedging members interposed between a sleeve having inclined surfaces and a drum carrying the said pinion, the position of the wedging members being controlled by members movable with the rockable motor stator. In the form shown, the rotor 7 is on a sleeve 9 having a flange 10 carrying planets 11, 12 of unequal tooth number meshing respectively with a pinion 13 on a drum 14 and a pinion 15 on the load shaft 5. Inside the drum is a flanged sleeve 1 with inclined surfaces 16 engaged by wedging members 17, Fig. 4, the position of which is determined by members 19 secured to the stator casing. The sleeve 1, is keyed to a bushing 3 having an extension subjected to the action of a spring (not shown). When the motor is first energised the pinion 15 is held stationary by the load resistance but the planet 11 rotates the drum 14. As the rotor accelerates the reaction causes the stator to rock, the members 19 then allow the wedges 17 to engage the drum 14 and the bush 3 is rocked until the spring pressure is equivalent to the load resistance, the pinion 13 then being held stationary and the drive transmitted through pinion 15. When the motor stops a counterweight (not shown) urges the stator back to its normal posiion and the wedges 17 are thereby enabled to return to their disengaged positions.
