Abstract

262,376. Dunn Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Smith, N. K.). Dec. 5, 1925, [Convention date]. Borehole apparatus.-In a device for handling tubing, suction rods &c. in wells comprising a body A and gate B hinged together, the free end of the gate is provided with one or more tongues 9, 10 having lower surfaces contoured, preferably angularly as shown in Fig. 3, and adapted to engage corresponding upper surfaces on tongues 7. 8 on the body, whereby relative upward and downward movement occurs between body and gate during opening and closing of the device. The hinge pin c is preferably inclined to assist in producing such vertical movement, and the gate is loosely fitted on the hinge pin and has clearance for movement along the hinge pin. The hinge pin may be vertical, more play being then provided between the pin and the gate. Specifications 235,128 and 249,807 are referred to.
