Abstract
246,714. Cuthill, J., and Oil Well Engineering Co., Ltd. June 2, 1925. Borehole apparatus.-In means for lifting &c. well casings, well boring tools &c., comprising a body 6 with a pivoted gate 10 adapted to clamp the casing &c., suspension means 13 being detachably connected to the body, the gate is automatically locked on closing by means of a horizontally pivoted latch 12 pressed by one or more springs 20 into engagement with a projection 23 on the gate, which projection seats on a shoulder 24 on the body; the latch is so balanced as to remain in its locking position if the springs break. The hinge portion of the gate is provided with an extended bearing surface 15. Stops 26, 38 limit movement of the latch. The suspension means 13 engage openings 28 in the body and are locked therein by pins 29 each provided with grooves 33, 36 engaged by a spring pressed pin 32 to hold the pin in locking or raised position; a collar 34 limits upward movement of each pin 29.
