Abstract

218,823. Marks, E. C. R.,(Dunn Manufacturing Co.). June 20, 1923. Bore-hole apparatus.-In means for lifting or lowering well casings or the like, comprising a clamp formed of relatively movable sections and latching means for holding the sections in closed position, bail or like suspension means being connected to the clamp, the latching means comprises a spring-pressed member carried by one section and provided with an actuating yoke which is moved outwardly from the section to release the member. As shown, the clamp comprises an annular body formed of two parts 15, 16 connected at one end by a pivot pin 18a while at the other end a tongue 27 on the member 16 engages a groove 28 in the member 15 when in closed position; in this position the parts are looked by a yoke-shaped latch 22. pivoted to the part 16 and pressed by springs 24 into engagement with a recess 23 in the part 15. A yokeshaped handle 25 on the latch is moved outwardly to release the latch. Centrally reduced pins 30 are held between the part 15 and spaced ears 29 by cotters 32 and are engaged bv suspension bails &c. 31; a ridge 33 limits inclination of the bails in one direction. In Fig. 5, the bore of the annular body is frusto-conical to receive serrated wedge slips 34 which are pressed towards the well casing W<1> by springs 35.
