Abstract
262,135. Portail, F. C. F. Nov. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-Atomizing of the fuel and mixing it with air are facilitated by injecting the fuel from the nozzle e into a tubular body a having ogival inner end surfaces and enclosing a helical member b which engages the body frictionally and is formed on a member c with rounded ends. Air to break up the fuel enters by the flared opening d at the lower end of the body a, and the main air enters through the annular passage h between the body a and the usual diffuser g. The fuel and air mixture issues from the orifice f in the form of a rotating conical sheet which is at all points met by the main air stream. The vertical angle of the cone should approach 180‹ as nearly as possible. In a modification, the nozzle is of the submerged type and the initial air is supplied to it through a tube which, at its upper end, is open to the atmosphere above the normal fuel level and at times is filled with fuel.
