Cells; cleaning; connections; gas exits.-A battery consisting of a number of cells comprises a container 10 divided into compartments by partitions 11 which do not reach. to the top of the container. All the cells can thus be filled with electrolyte in one operation, the electrolyte being introduced through an opening 18 which is normally closed by a spring-pressed valve which allows the escape of gas but not of liquid. Each electrode 13 is connected b a conductor 19 to a screw contact 21 on an insulating cover 14. A trough 38 may be provided to collect sediment by inverting the battery, the sediment passing through an opening 40. Liquid in the trough returns to the battery through a filter 39 of carbon or glass wool, or the trough may be perforated or made of filtering material.
