Abstract

Locking nuts.-A lock-nut having at least two main parts including a threaded member b having a compressible head slotted at c and a stem a, and a collar e arranged to rotate with and transmit pressure to the compressible head is characterised in that the stem a and the bore of the collar e have parallel coacting parts. A groove d is provided in the nut or in the collar which is longer than the stem a. The coacting surfaces of the members b, e are hexagonal or serrated and the outer surfaces are formed for simultaneous engagement by a spanner. The stem may be slotted at f, Fig. 5, co-acting conical surfaces g, h being provided on the stem and collar. A reversible nut having two slotted stems a is shown in Fig. 7. In the construction shown in Fig. 9 an annular groove k is formed between the stem a and head part b, the collar e being in the form of a thin sleeve. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the sleeve e encloses the member b, is slotted at the bottom and is burred over at e<1> to retain the member b. In a further modification, the nut may be locked solely by co-acting conical surfaces arranged at one or both ends; in the latter construction, Fig. 15, the inner member is slotted at both ends.
