Abstract
261,920. Smith, W. Prince-, and Waterhouse, D. Dec. 1, 1925. Rollers and roller heads; driving- arrangements.-In a roving, drawing, spinning, or like machine having the "twist " and " draft " gearing associated at the same, viz. the driving, end of the machine. the arrangement is such that adjustments between the centres of the front and back rollers can be effected without disengaging the gear elements, while the carrier rollers are driven directly from the " draft " gearing at a speed proportional to that of the back rollers. The front bottom rollers 10 are driven from the main cylinder shaft 14 through " twist " gearing 17, 20, 21, 23, 24 of usual form arranged as shown in Fig. 1. The back rollers 5 are driven from the front roller shaft 11 through gearing 27, 28, 35, 37, 38, 46, Figs. 3, 4, and 5. The intermediate pinion 28 is carried by an arbor 29 on a slotted plate 30 which may be clamped adjustably at 31 in a horizontally slotted extension 32 of a bracket 33 bolted at 34 to the end frame 1. The wheels 35, 37 are mounted on the same arbor 36 while the pinion 38 is carried on an arbor 39 by the upper arm of a bell-crank lever 40 the lower arm of which can be adjustably clamped at 41 in a slot 42. The pinion 46 is keyed to the back roller shaft 45 to which is also secured a lever 44 articulated to the arbor 39. To alter the distance between the centres of the front and back rollers, the bolt 41 is slackened and the levers 40, 44 moved inwards or outwards angularly, the gear wheels remaining in mesh throughout. Two positions are shown in Fig. 3. The outer carrier rollers 6, 7 are driven by a chain 50 through sprocket wheels 48, 49 from a sprocket wheel 47 secured on the inner end of the shaft 36, a jockey wheel 50a adjustable in a vertical slot 51 being provided to compensate for adjustments of the rollers. The middle carrier rollers 8 are driven similarly from the back roller shaft 45 by chain gearing situated at the opposite end of the machine.
