Abstract
261,451. Boothby, F. L. M. July 21 1925. Wearing-apparel for protection in poisonous atmospheres.-A garment to protect the body from poisonous or corrosive gases, such as mustard gas, is formed of, or lined, interlined or covered by, goldbeater's skin. The overalls 10 shown, are connected to a gasmask 11 by means of a ring on the mask and a split ring 25 with clamping device 27. The front opening 14 is closed by ordinary fastenings and has under and overlying strips of goldbeater's skin to render it gas tight. A bellows 17 supported by a waistbelt and shoulder straps communicates with the interior of the suit by a tube 21 and with a gas absorbing canister 18 by a tube 20, so that the movements of the wearer force pure air at slight pressure into the suit. A second canister 18 supplies pure, air to the mask 11. Air outlets from the suit may be constituted by non-return valves 22. The suit may be in two or more pieces connected by clamping devices and may include a hood which forms a junction with a gas mask. The bellows may be positively operated or may be replaced by a pump or a reservoir of compressed air.
