261,304. Fairweather, W., (Singer Manufacturing Co.). June 26, 1926. Chain-stilching. - A thread-guard device, for preventing the seizure of a needle-loop by a rotating looper for a second time before it has been drawn up, is arranged with its active position adjacent to the needle disposed in rear of the needlepath and out of range of the needle-loop on the looper. The device is specially suitable for darning and tacking machines of the type described in Specification 225,467 which may be fitted with thread-controlling mechanism of the type described in Specification 183,236. The threadguard is secured by its shank 54 to the needleguide 53 or other suitable support and comprises angularly related walls 55-57 adjacent to the top and side of the looper-beak 14, the effective edge x being positioned so as to cover the looperbeak shortly after the looper has seized a new needle-loop and while it is shedding the one previously seized.
