Abstract

261,157. Algrain, P. Oct. 9, 1925. Axles.-In a vehicle axle of the kind comprising two members fitting the one within the other and freely rotatable relatively to each other, relative longitudinal movement of the two members 1, 3 is prevented by abutments one of which is constituted by a cylindrical nut 15 which rotates with the member 1 and which is capable of fine adjustment. The part 1 is conical and is provided with a bearing sleeve 6 which forms the other abutment and is located in the end of a conical bore in the member 3, and the outer end of the conical bore is provided with a bearing sleeve 5 which abuts a shoulder 7 formed on the member 1. The nut and the member 1 are provided with a number of semi-circular holes, 20, 20<a>, Fig. 2, in their threaded portions some of which register at each partial rotation of the nut, the registering holes having pins 21 inserted therein to lock the nut. The pins 21 have enlarged heads and are prevented from working out of the holes by a plate 16 jointed to the end of the member 3. The vehicle may be supported on the axle either by outer journals 13 or by inner journals 14 or by both.
