Abstract

260,896. Hilgenberg, G. June 11, 1926. Rotary scraper apparatus. - Salt, sugar, &c. to be dried is fed into the top of a cylindrical casing containing superposed annular plates f over which the material is traversed to an outlet in the bottom of the casing by scrapers attached to a central rotary duct b, the salt &c. being dried indirectly by the heat of hot gases which are passed upwardly through the duct to an exhaust duct c which either wholly or partly surrounds the casing. The central duct may be made of corrugated sheet metal and provided with helical baffle plates. In a modification, the heating-fluid may be introduced into the duct through the hollow perforated shaft by which the duct is rotated, heating-means being arranged within the duct. The outer surface of the apparatus may be protected by heat-insulating devices, and the metal or other parts coated with heat-resistant paint. Further, the salt &c. may be cooled after drying by arranging some of the plates outside the bottom of the casing and passing air upwardly through the annular space between the central duct and the casing.
