Abstract

Pliers.-In a tool of the pliers type for securing closures in holes in tea chests, barrels and other containers the pivot of the plier arms is formed by a roller, ball or balls, or projecting rib or pins, and means are provided for retaining the arms in contact with the roller &c,. The arms alpha provided with jaws in the form of overhanging flanges a<1> pivot about a roller b which engages curved depressions in the arms, a bolt c passing through a hole in the roller and holes d in the arms to secure them together. The roller may have flanges at the ends. A spring e engaging recesses e<1> in the arms normally holds the backs of the jaws a<1> in contact. The roller need not be sunk into the arms, which may be left plain and kept in contact with the roller by any suitable means. Instead of employing a separate roller or ball, one of the arms may be formed with a transverse rib. engaging a transverse recess in the other arm, or pins on the one arm may bear on the inner ends of holes in the other arm.
