Abstract

260,192. Hill, C. V. June 25, 1926. Catches, automatic, particularly for securing refrigerator doors. The catch is mounted on an L-shaped face plate and operated by a rod passing through a transverse hole in the door, provided with a sealing plate to prevent ingress or egress of air. The catch consists of a shaft 13 journalled in the brackets 11. 12 of the face plate 10, an arm 16, and a cranked arm 14 with a roller 15 for riding over the inclines 6, 7 of the striking plate 5. Fig. 2 shows the catch in operative position. To release, the outside handle 26 is pulled or the inside knob 23 pushed, causing the rod 20, which is pivoted to links 33, 18, pivoted respectively to the plate 10 and arm 16, to rotate the shaft 13. The rod 20 works in a tube 43 let into a hole 19 in the door and has a vertical rocking motion as the handles are operated. To prevent ingress or egress of air during the stroke of the rod, a cap 45 is provided on the inside of the door to form a seating for the shouldered end of the tube and provided with packing 25. On the outside a plate 39 slides in guides 38 beneath the face plate 10 and moves with the rod to seal the elongated hole 36 in the face plate. A strong spring 42 compressed be. tween the plate 39 and an adjustable nut and sleeve 40, 41 forces the catch home in the striking plate and presses the door firmly into its seating. A resilient buffer 28 is formed on the head of the rod 20.
