3448. Hart, M. C. Feb. 12. Pneumatically-operated fastenings.-A tube a extends the length of each bottom side frame of a railway carriage, and has beneath each door an air bulb g or its equivalent. Upon each bulb g rests a plate e, to which is attached a rod d connected at its other end to a lever j, the end j' of which is capable of engagement in a notch in the lock bolt k of the ordinary door lock. In cases where the door lock is not provided with a handle for its operation, the rod d constitutes a removable striking-plate. The device may be applied to the doors of buildings.
