Abstract
259,825. Armstrong Siddeley Motors, Ltd., and Viale, S. M. March 17, 1926. Cylinders.-A cylinder 2 is mounted by being screw threaded at 3 directly into the crank-case 5 and locked by a wedge member 10 which is compressed between the crank-case and a collar 6 on the cylinder. This collar is reinforced by thickening the cylinder walls as shown at 7. The wedge member 10 comprises a split V-shaped ring which is grooved at 11 and constructed so that the angle of the wedge is greater than the angle between the faces 8, 9 which it engages. It has a range of engagement equal to the pitch of the thread 3 and is tightened by a tangential screw 13 having a conical head which renders it selflocking. The position of the collar 6 is accurately determined with respect to the start of the thread 3 which is preferably a buttress thread arranged so that the perpendicular face receives the force of explosion in the cylinder.
