Fluid-actuated valves. - The exhaust-steam valve e of a Giffard injector has two seating faces adapted to contact automatically with seatings g, h respectively. The valve-stem i passes through the head k of a cylinder i into a cavity in a piston j. When working with exhaust, live steam is passed into the cylinder i to force the valve e to mid-position; when the injector action is to be stopped, the live steam is exhausted from the cylinder i and the exhaust forces the valve on to its seat g. When in operation, the piston j abuts against a seat on the head k to prevent leakage into the injector. Specification 223,983, [Class 71, Injectors &c.], is referred to.
