Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves- Hydraulic machines in which part of the stroke is performed by low-pressure water are controlled by valves a and B. Low-pressure liquid passes from a pipe L through a port l<2> when a valve piston f<2> is in the position shown. When the valve a is set to admit high-pressure liquid from a pipe H to a chamber f<5>, the piston f<2> together with an internal hollow piston g<2>, is moved to close the port l<2> against the action of high-pressure liquid constantly admitted to an annular chamber M through a pipe h. The motion of the piston g<2> ceases when a stop g<5> contacts with its abutment, and the continued movement of the piston f<z> opens ports g<3> and allows high-pressure liquid to enter the hydraulic cylinder. The return stroke is performed by high-pressure liquid passing through a pipe c<2>.
