Abstract

258,973. Carpmael, W., (Farbenfabriken vorm. F. Bayer & Co.). July 17, 1925. Alkali and alkaline earth antimony compounds of mercapto-carboxylic acids are prepared either by treating a neutral alkali or alkaline earth salt of the mercapto-carboxylic acid with an oxygen compound of trivalent antimony, or by first treating the mercapto-carboxylic acid with an oxygen compound of trivalent antimony and then neutralizing with an alkali or alkaline earth. In the application of the second method to compounds from thioglycollic acid. the acid obtained prior to neutralization is not isolated. The products. which are water-soluble, are useful as trypanocides. Examples are given of the preparation of the sodium and calcium antimony salts of thioglycollic acid and the sodium antimony salt of thiosalicylic acid.
