Abstract
258,943. Rea, D. H. July 1, 1925. Road-traffic signals on vehicles; lamp-group code signals. - Longitudinal shafts 1, 4 carrying signal arms or discs 9, 8 at the rear and front of the vehicle respectively are connected together by a shaft 6 so as to move simultaneously when a handle 5 is turned by the driver. The shaft 1 preferably is disposed beneath the vehicle frame while the shaft 4 runs over the bonnet. A coloured transparent window 18 in each arm is arranged to be illuminated by lamps 17 placed behind apertures 16 in each signalling position. A switch operated with the signalling means may cause only the lamp 17 corresponding to the signalling-position to be illiliminated, and a moving contact carried, e.g., by the shafts 1 or 4 may close the circuit of a bell or gong. The control handle 5 may be held in any desired position by a detent engaging a cog-wheel on the shaft 4.
