Type - setting machines. - Relates to type-setting machines more especially adapted for use in connection with office duplication, and particularly to (1) means for guiding the type to the assembling point, (2) means for enabling two or more magazines to be used, and (3) means for releasing the type from the magazines. (1) The type pass from the channels of a magazine 13, Fig. 4, into a raceplate 3 formed with vertical ducts 4, which are divided from each other by undercut walls 5, Fig. 7, providing flanged rails 6. The lower ends of the rails 6 are slightly spaced from converging side-rails 7a having undercut walls 7. Downwardly converging ducts 8 are thus formed leading to an outlet 9 and a shoot 10<a>. An adjustable glass plate or other member covers the vertical and converging ducts, so as to guide the type. The plate may be of V-shape having lower converging sides, or may be cut away at its upper part to form converging sides. The junctures of the vertical and converging ducts may be covered by an inwardly projecting flange or bar 7<b> Fig. 10, formed integrally with, or attached to, the wall 7. The bar 7<b> may be connected to the vertical rails, or to both the vertical and converging rails, or it may be supported from the machine frame. The raceplate is laterally adjustable to enable it to be registered with the magazine-channels. (2) The magazines 13, 14, Fig. 2, are carried in a frame 15 removably supported by trunnions 16 from the machine standards 1. The frame 15 can be rocked to bring either magazine into use, by means of forked arms 19 engaging studs 18, and operable by means of a push-rod 21. Inclined slots are provided in the standards 1 for guiding the studs 18 into the forked arms 19. (3) The type are released by means of escapements, which consist of pivoted interengaging members 25, 26, Fig. 8. The lower member 26 is normally held by a spring 40 with its toe 33 extending beneath the lowest type, and can be retracted by means of a key-operated lever 39 to release the type. A projection 34 on the member 26 engages a notch in the upper member 25, a depending arm 29 on which is thereby pressed against the lowest type but one.
