Abstract

258,345. Smith, W. S., and Garnett, K. J. June 17, 1925. Annealing.-A tightly wound loaded conductor is annealed by subjecting it to a low temperature heat treatment followed after cooling by a high temperature heat treatment, the temperature of the first heat treatment being from 500-650‹ C. and the second 880-920‹ C. In an example a copper conductor loaded with an alloy wire composed of 74 per cent of nickel, 20.2 per cent of iron, 5.3 per cent of copper and 0.5 per cent of manganese is heated to 515‹ C. and 820‹ C. or to 650‹ C. and 920‹ C., the cooling being to room temperature. In another example a copper conductor loaded with an alloy wire composed of 76 per cent of nickel, 16.5 per cent of iron, 5 per cent of copper, 2 per cent of chromium and 0.5 per cent of manganese is heated to 650‹ C and 880‹ C.
