Abstract

258,218. Siemens & Halske Akt.- Ges. Sept. 11, 1925, [Convention date]. Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.- Alternating-current power circuits are made and broken by supplying the power through mercuryvapour apparatus or switch tubes which are so ignited twice during one period of the supply current that the discharge is produced at the electrode which is negative at the time and consequently both halt waves of the current traversethe apparatus. By disconnecting the ignition circuit the discharge is stopped and the power circuit broken. As shown in Fig. 2, in which an A.C. generator supplies a load 13 through the switch tube 11, the ignition poles 16, 17 are connected to the secondaries of transformers 18, 19, the primaries of which are connected across the alternating-current line through condensers 20, 21 and the switch 22. Ignition voltage is supplied alternately to the poles 16, 17 so that the power current is transmitted by the vapour ap.- paratus.
