Abstract

A flow signal detection circuit comprises an input capacitor C1 connected to a trigger port (TRI) of a control chip U1 and receiving a pulsed flow signal from a flow sensor, for example a Hall element. An RC network comprising a series connected resistor R2 and capacitor C2, with the resistor connected to a power supply VDD and the capacitor connected to ground GND, has its centre node connected to both a discharge (DIS) and threshold port (THR) of the control chip. A voltage control port (CON) of the control chip is grounded via a third capacitor C3. Additionally, a diode D1 has its anode connected to the control chip threshold and trigger ports, and its cathode connected to the control chip trigger port and to the power supply via a pull-up resistor R1. The control chip outputs a high signal when a valid pulse train is received. A flow control system (Fig.2) comprises the flow signal detection circuit and a control module, each connected in parallel between an output of a flow sensor and separate inputs of a judgement circuit. The system may be used to control a load, e.g. a water heater, when both inputs to the judgement circuit are high; this may prevent false load activation due to signal noise.
