Surface markings and signs.-A road marking device visible both' by night and day comprises a long narrow trough A embedded in the road B and fitted with pieces of white or distinctively coloured material D disposed alternately with transparent or translucent pieces C. Lamps E, connected together, are inserted into the lower part of the trough A, preferably so as to lie each beneath a transparent piece C. The pieces C, D are supported at their ends only.
