Abstract
360,048. Road surface signs. CROXFORD, G. R., 36, Nightingale Road, Hampton-on-Thames. June 27, 1930, No. 21018/31. Divided on 360,000. [Class 3 (ii).] In traffic-guidance signs of the type comprising a transparent or translucent element located over illuminating means inserted under ground level, the element is formed of two or more layers 4, 5, the upper of which is of phenol formaldehyde resin, cellulose ester, or like resin, cellulose or other material less liable to fracture than ordinary glass. The layers 4, 5 are held in a frame 3 screwed &c. to a casing 2 and secured by a locking pin or screw 8. Thermally or otherwise mouldable cement may be filled in between the element 4 and the frame 3, and between the frame 3 and the road surface 1. The element 4 may have a lenticular, ribbed, or other non-slip top formation, and may have figures, letters, &c. formed in, on, or by itself or its frame 3. A continuous or intermittent raised edge may protect, and a grating &c. may be inserted above, below, or in, the element. The lamp 6 may be of the electric discharge type, and more than one may be provided in each casing 2. The lamps may be of different colours and their lighting may be controlled for signalling purposes. Specifications 346,335, 360,000, and 360,049 are referred to.
