Electrodes.-The process described in the parent Specification for making a dry battery in which an absorbent lining is partly inserted in a metal container which is then filled with dry depolarizer and afterwards saturated with electrolyte, is modified by inserting the absorbent lining 2 entirely within the zinc container 6, as shown in Fig. 6, before the insertion of the depolarizing mix. The latter is compressed within the lined cup and the carbon electrode is then forced in to further compress the mix. Fig. 6 shows the zinc cup placed over the lining 2 which is formed by winding a paper strip over a mandrel 1 provided with an ejector 4, the inner end of the lining being turned over to insulate the cathode from the cup 6. The lined cup is removed from the mandrel and placed over a mould containing the depolarizer which is torced into the cup and compressed by a plunger. A carbon electrode 11 is then forced into the depolarizer by a plunger 16. as shown in Fig. 10. Electrolyte is then poured in to saturate the depolarizer and lining and a washer is then forced into the cup by a plunger to turn down the projecting end of the lining as shown at 22 in Fig. 14. A second washer 19 and sealing 23 close the call.
