257,263. Nordensson, T. K. A. Aug. 19, 1925, [Convention date]. Liquid - level pressure gauges-The apparatus is intended more especially for measuring a vacuum and comprises two barometric tubes a1, b1, a2, b2 containing liquid and connected with each other at the vacuum side c so as to form a common vacuum chamber. In use, the pipe e1, say, is connected to a pressure - under atmospheric-to be measured. The difference between the heights of the liquid in tubes a1, b1 will give the pressure. If, however, the difference in height of the liquid in tubes a2, b2 has altered during this measurement, there is a pressure prevailing in the vacuum chamber and a correction must be made which correction may be readily deduced from the known volume of the vacuum chamber. A means of filling the tubes with mercury involving heating the tubes and the use of calcium chloride as a drying agent is described.
