Cells. - A cell of the LeclanchÚ type is provided with a glass container 1 having a glass cover 10 provided with two openings through which the zinc and carbon electrodes project, the carbon electrode Having means ior suspending it from the cover. A glass support is provided for the zinc electrode. In the form shown, in Fig. 1 the electrode 3 is suspended from the cover by means of a rubber ring 11, the support 7 for the zinc electrode 4 being provided by making the lower part of the jar 1 of a smaller diameter. The electrode 4 passes through a split rubber plug 18 in the cover of the cell. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the electrode 3 is suspended by a glass disc 14 which rests on rubber rings 15, 16, the zinc electrode being supported by a loose glass ring 8. Fig. 3 shows a further modification in which the electrode 3 is suspended by a nut 6 or the threaded terminal lug 5 of the electrode, an air-tight joint being made by means of a rubber ring 16. The zinc is supported by lugs 9 formed integrally with the cell. The cover 10 in all the forms makes a tight joint with the cell by means of a packing ring 17. Specification 109,122 is referred to.
