256,369. Renold, Ltd., H., Jenkins, H. G., and Stuck, E. June 20, 1925. Guards.-A sheet-metal gear casing of adjustable, length consists of end sections a, c, Fig. 1, each with parallel side walls f and shaped to surround a gear wheel or pulley b, d and one or more detachable intermediate, sections e having a 'sliding fit with adjacent sections. The end sections are slotted to pass over the shafts, the edges of the slots being bent up or fitted with lead strips n, n<1>, Fig. 5, to enable the slots to be closed by metal strips o, o'. The sections have interengaging strengthening ribs q to hold the parts against displacement and to permit a step-by-step adjustment. Oil leakage from the casing is prevented by felt sheets h bolted to the casing round the shaft openings and by packing strips s held in beadings r formed in the outer ends of the sections.
