Abstract

256,360. Smith, H. C. June 1925. Sails.-Luff hanks running on a jack-stay are adjusted to turn relatively to the spar or mast on which they run to facilitate the close stowing of the sail. A slider D of channel section works on a jack-stay A secured to the mast or spar and has mounted thereon a pivoted cleat E to which the luff rope is lashed. In a modification the cleat E is replaced by a swivel eye spaced from the slider by washers. In another variation, the luff hank is in one piece, the lower member of which is in the form of a flat circular stud free to rotate in the channel-section jack stay.
