256,272. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning). Aug. 1, 1925, [Convention date]. Samples furnished. Azo dyes; lakes.-Azo dyes are produced, either in substance or on the fibre or upon a substratum, by coupling a 4-nitro-2-diazobenzene-1-carboxylic ester with an amide or arylamide of 2 :3-oxynaphthoic acid, with the exception of the bis- (2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl)-4 : 4<1>-diamino-3 : 3<1> - diaryls, the use of which as coupling components is described in Specification 218,568. According to an example diazotized 4-nitro-2-amino-1-benzoic acid methyl ester is coupled with 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic anilide; the bluish-red pigment dyestuff so obtained, which may also be prepared in presence of a substratum, is especially suitable for colouring wall-paper, being fast to light. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of aralkylamides of 2 : 3-oxynapthoic acid as coupling components. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
