Impact pulverizers. - In a coal-pulverizing machine of the kind comprising a pulverizing-chamber and a fan chamber separated by a diaphragm plate, the fan casing is hinged and a displaceable bearing is provided for the fan shaft so that after the bearing has been displaced the casing can be turned on its hinge to give access to the interior of the casing. The diaphragm-plate may also be hinged, preferably coaxially with the fan casing on hinges carried by the pulverizing-chamber. The fan casing 7 has a conical recess 12 engaging a corresponding spigotal part 13 on the diaphragm plate 5 and is provided with hinge-lugs 14 connected with corresponding lugs 15 on the pulverizing-chamber 2. The bearing 17 for the end of the shaft 8 carrying the fan 10 can be withdrawn endwise from the casing 7 after removal of the cap 18 and shaft collar 19. The, bearing 17 is in a flanged bush or sleeve 20 and is removed by withdrawal of the bush from the bracket 21. After removal of the bearing 17 and sleeve 20, the sleeve 22 provided with the disc 23 filling the aperture 24 in the end wall of the casing 7 can be removed, thus leaving an annular space around the end of the shaft 8 so that the casing 7 can be swung about its hinge axis 25 without fouling the shaft. The hinge-lugs 26 of the plate 5 are located between those provided for the casing 7, and the plate has a large central aperture 9 so that it can be swung about its hinge without fouling the end of the shaft 8. A conical spigot 27 on the plate 5 engages with the pulverizing-chamber 2. The same bolts may serve to secure both thecasing 7 and the plate 5 to the chamber 2.
