Abstract

255,882. Wisner, C. B. Jan. 13, 1925, [Convention date]. Rotary furnaces,. - A rotary furnace 14, arranged within a heating chamber 15, is provided at each end with a yieldably-supported gas-tight closure 37 which fits over a short neck 14<11> formed on the truncated conical end portion 14 of the furnace and is so mounted that it may yield both endwise and laterally of the furnace. The closure 37 is carried bv trunnions 42 in links 41 supported by ball joints 40<1> in bearings 41<11>, the arrangement being such that the door is pressed by its own weight against a machined flange 42<1> on the end of the furnace. Tight joints between the machined flange 37<11> on the closure and the flanges 42<1>, 20<1>, on the furnace and the end plate 20 respectively, are made by asbestos rope packing 43, 46<1>, and the pressure of the closure on the furnace is cushioned by springs 44, Fig. 3, inserted between ears 45 on the closure and the end plate 20 of the heating chamber.
