Wire resistances, embedded and encased. - An electric resistance for heating a body, such as an electric iron, of considerably greater volume that the resistance itself, is arranged in a groove in the body and embedded in an insulating material, such as magnesia, which can be consolidated by pressure. The insulating material may be placed in the groove 2 in the body, and consolidated and formed with a groove to receive the resistances by an appropriately formed ram 5. The resistance 3 is then placed in the groove, covered with a further quantity 4 of insulating material which is then consolidated by a flat ram 10. Alteratively the resistances may be forced into the insulating material by the ram 5, which is shaped to receive it. In a further modification insulating supports may be placed in the groove 2 and the resistance laid therein, and the insulating- material then introduced and consolidated.
