Abstract
255,655. Johnson, J. Y., (Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik). Aug. 12, 1925. Gases, separating mixtures of.-In separating organic gases and vapours from moist gases by. means of a solid adsorbent, the adsorbent is arranged or selected so that the moisture and the organic product are adsorbed in turn at different stages. For example, a hydrophile adsorbent, such as silica gel, alumina gel, or natural or artificial zeolite, may be arranged in a series of vessels through which the moist gases are passed, the arrangement being such that, when the system is saturated, the adsorbent in the first vessel is charged substantially with water and that in the last vessel with the organic product. Alternatively, a combination of hydrophile adsorbents having pores of different width may be used, the first vessel containing the adsorbent having wider pores; it is stated that the width of the pores depends, to some extent, on the purity of the adsorbent and can be varied by varying the conditions of drying. According to a further modification the moist gases are passed in turn through a hydrophile adsorbent and a hydrophobe adsorbent, such as active charcoal. In reactivating, the adsorbent containing the organic pro. duct is treated, optionally in vacuo, with steam and that containing water with hot fine or waste gases.
