Abstract
255,296. Lowndes, A. Dec. 2, 1925. Feeding carding-engines &c. -In apparatus for weighing wool as it passes from the feed mechanism of a carding- engine, a depressible member such as a spring 24 is carried by the weigh-beam 11 and arranged to be swung into the path of a moving member 27 on the floating of the beam so as to effect the disconnecting of the driving mechanism of the apron 1. The member 27, which is provided with a head 29 to engage a head 25 on the spring 24, is oscillated against the pressure of a spring 32 by cams 34 on the periphery of a wheel 33 mounted on the shaft 4 round which the apron 1 passes. Depression of the spring 24 moves a lever 36 to disengage a catch 38 from the curved end 4 of a lever 39 secured to a shaft 40. A lever 42 secured to the shaft 40 is given a clockwise movement by a spring 43 to operate a belt-shifter 46 and stop the apron, and at the same time a link 48 connected to the lever 39 moves a gate 7 to retain wool removed from a comb-arm 5 by a stripper 6. The wool is discharged from the pan 9 through the hinged bottom 10, and the feed is restarted by a rotating arm 40 restoring the levers 39, 42 to their original position. Stops 14, 44 limit the movements of the beam 11 and lever 42 respectively.
