Air-heating furnaces.-The blast for furnaces, producers, &c. is heated by burning tar in the blast prior to its entrance into the furnace. The blast supply pipe a for the producer e is provided with a combustion chamber b into which tar is fed by a pipe c, atomized by a nozzle d and burnt, thus heating the air which, together with the products of the combustion of the tar, passes into the producer through nozzles f.
