Abstract
254,978. Cummer, F. H. Dec. 21, 1925. Tar-macadam, plant for making.-Relates to apparatus for drying road stone, of the kind in which the stone traverses a rotary drum 4 arranged within a stationary furnace-jacket 3. According to the invention, the outside of the drum is protected from flame by means such as spaced rings 22, Fig. 2, which rotate with the drum. The gases enter the drum through hooded pipes 25 which open beneath the rings. The discharge end of the drum projects beyond the furnace jacket and is fed internally with hot gases from a second furnace 30, Fig. 4, which like the first is fitted with burners 31 for gaseous or liquid fuel. The furnace 30 and its jacket 27 are lined with refractory material, the joint between the drum and the jacket 27 being sealed with a metal plate 28. The dried material is discharged through a shoot, 28<a> leading to an elevator.
