Abstract
257,479. Roser, E. Dec. 29, 1925. Rotary furnaces. - In a rotary-drum furnace for distilling bituminous materials, the annular space between an inner rotary drum d and an outer stationary drum c is heated externally and internally and is divided by transverse and longitudinal partitions e and f secured to the inner drum, into separate cells g, each of which has a supply shoot h and a discharge shoot i for the material to be treated. The products of distillation are either carried off within the central drum, or are delivered through pipes connected to the outer drum. As shown in Fig. 1. the inner drum is heated by a central burner 4, the hot gases afterwards passing by way of an end chamber 6 into the space outside the outer drum to a discharge at the other end; or, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, burners a heat the outer space first, the hot gases thus entering the inner drum by way of an end chamber 21, or combinations of both methods may be adopted. In connection with the modification of Fig. 1, the end chamber 6 is separated from the distillation cells by a labyrinth packing 61, 62. As shown in Fig. 6 the feed and discharge shoots are provided with valves and smoke gases may be supplied through pipes 23 to the burners.
